HALF-BAKED BUSINESS DECISIONS ARE DETRIMENTAL
CHALLENGE-1
We all live and operate within a multi-layered complex network of interconnections, influences, and variabilities referred to as externalities. These nonlinear factors are not always known to us until their subtle influences finally become evident at a late stage in their evolutionary life cycle.
How often has CULTURE been identified as the ultimate culprit behind many management wrongdoings in recent years?
We generally find out about such unforeseen complex factors in hindsight and when it is too late. We either interpret the unfolding consequences as nice surprises or rude shocks to our existing plans/aspirations. From the risks considerations, these factors, without warning, have the potential to mercilessly derail: 1) our earlier decision’s assumptions; 2) what we thought was a good plan or 3) the outcomes we are eagerly seeking to achieve.
CHALLENGE-2
We also know that we can never/ever have or practically obtain enough information/insights that can give us full assurance that we are making educated decisions. Decisions that can address the problem’s root causes and allow for different life scenarios/possibilities/impacts/potentials, and deliver sustainable results.
CHALLENGE-3
Despite the above challenges, we are constantly expected to proceed forward and somehow make informed organisational decisions as stagnation is not an intelligent option for us to adopt.
CHALLENGE-4
We also know that whatever we decide now, will consequentially change the course of our lives and will have future implications on our desired interests and environment.
CHALLENGE-5
So as individuals or as decision-makers within an organisational setting, what should we do and how should we make decisions, given that we never have all the necessary information or analytical capability to make robust decisions?
Remember two important constraints: 1) despite your diligence, there are no absolute certainties in life, and 2) as a responsible business decision-maker, you can’t bet on your gut feelings as this would not be a popular or justifiable strategy.

Organisations must be able to measure and combine their complex behaviours with linear behaviours to create balanced perspectives of diverse needs and establish an intelligent platform for sustainable decisions and the realisation of strategic visions.
The savvy and enlightened organisations that intend to thrive into the future should:
URGENTLY RE-EVALUATE their linear machine-centric paradigm of management practices imposed on them by the currently available tools that are no longer fit for purpose.
CONSCIOUSLY DEVELOP new insights and complex behavioural capabilities that can sensibly help them measure the impacting influences, enable them to make intelligent decisions and deliver appropriate responses that with a high level of probability can sustainably balance and satisfy their diverse stakeholders’ needs.
